LME 2016 Brings Laser Manufacturing to the Southeast

By Geoff Giordano

Advanced manufacturing with lasers will be showcased at the Laser Institute of America’s fifth Lasers for Manufacturing Event® (LME®) held at the Cobb Galleria Centre April 26-27 in Atlanta, Georgia — a hub of U.S. automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment and metal fabrication activity.

The move of LME to the Southeast from its former home in Schaumburg, IL, “is intended to bring this unique lasers-only event closer to a new group of manufacturers who stand to benefit greatly from the real-world market information we provide — in an environment exclusively populated by top-tier laser equipment suppliers and customers who are ready to buy,” explained LIA Executive Director Peter Baker.

LME 2014 Showcases Global Opportunities for Laser Manufacturing Processes

By Geoff Giordano

Sapphire cutting for electronic displays, laser marking and processes related to retrieving and transporting oil, were among the leading applications spotlighted at LIA’s fourth Lasers for Manufacturing Event® (LME®) on Sept. 23-24 at the Schaumburg (IL) Convention Center.

Attendees packed 101-level courses on laser types, laser welding, cost advantages of lasers and laser safety, as well as four keynote addresses at the Laser Technology Showcase Theater in the exhibit hall. Nine working laser systems added to the attraction, as did a new tour of exhibits by Ask the Experts booth chair Rob Mueller.

This year, LIA’s first Lasers for Manufacturing Summit, the day before LME, painted a broader picture of global opportunities for laser processes. In addition to providing vital statistics on established and often-disappointing emerging markets, the summit offered a fast-paced panel discussion and spirited question-and-answer period providing the kind of insider perspective attendees craved. Five expert panelists tackled questions about the future of feedback control in micromachining, diode lasers directly coupled to fibers, technology that might replace solid-state fiber lasers, and what will become of CO2 lasers. Discover the Possibilities of Laser Additive Manufacturing & Attend Paul Denney’s LME 2014 Tutorial Presentation

Orlando, FL (Sept. 19, 2014) –Senior laser applications engineer and additive manufacturing (AM) expert Paul Denney will be presenting the second of two educational tutorials on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the Laser Institute of America’s fourth annual Lasers for Manufacturing Event® (LME®) in Schaumburg, IL.

Denney’s tutorial, Overview of Laser Additive Manufacturing Systems, will be focused on giving attendees a practical guide to the world of LAM, and the systems used for the varying processes and applications.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) has taken the design and manufacturing world by storm, introducing cost effective solutions for rapid prototyping, mass customization, and most recently, rapid manufacturing. Industries as diverse as aerospace, automotive, medical, dental, even jewelry and toys, use AM to create their components, with some building the entire finished product using AM.
