The popularity of additive manufacturing methods, such as 3D printing, does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Taking a step away from traditional manufacturing methods, additive manufacturing builds from the ground up, rather than reducing a part or product down to size.

LIA recognizes the importance of this growing trend and offers multiple ways to learn, explore, and get involved with additive manufacturing concepts. To highlight this, we’ve put together the top three ways LIA can help you better understand Laser Additive Manufacturing.

Conferences

A recent study predicts substantial growth for 3D scanners through the end of 2016. Worth noting, however, is the majority market share held by 3D laser scanners. Find out what is driving this new, projected trend here.

This week, we featured another entry in the Laser Accident Series – this time, with a focus on how a lack of laser safety knowledge led to life-changing injuries for two individuals. The Laser Accident Series is a continued emphasis on education and safety through the use of lasers by bringing to light real-life accidents, as reported by OSHA, and caused by lack of proper procedure. Throwback Thursday – LiDAR Helps to Uncover Lost Cities

In this week’s Throwback Thursday, we take a look at how lasers are being used to uncover lost cities. Using technology known as LiDAR, which uses lasers in place of radar’s radio waves, scans are able to see through the thick jungles and see long-forgotten cityscapes. These new scans revealed ancient cityscapes near Angkor Wat, in Cambodia that are much larger than previously assumed. Information from these scans will be used to simplify the research process for future digs performed by archeologists. Discover more about these exciting findings here.
